East Peak Fire Update


The East Peak Fire is burning in heavy timber below the East Spanish Peak in Huerfano County. The weather is under a Red Flag warning and we are expecting extreme fire behavior.

Approximately 1000 acres have burned.

Currently there is 0% containment. The fire continues to make significant runs to the East and South East.

Mandatory evacuation is in effect east of the town of LaVeta east to Hwy I-25 and S of the town of Walsenburg to the Las Animas County Line.

Pre-Evacuation is in effect from South of the town of Aguilar to the city limits of Trinidad and east to I-25. The town of Walsenburg is also under pre-evacuation status. New shelter information will follow shortly.

Highway I-25 is currently open but threatened.

At this time there have been no structures confirmed lost.
