Colorado Wildfire Update: August 6

About this report:  This wildfire update is provided by the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management in partnership with the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control to keep you informed of current wildfires for which the State is currently supporting and monitoring.  The update does not cover all wildfires currently burning in Colorado as there may be smaller incidents.


Wolf Fire


Fire Jurisdiction:  Fire started on BLM land and has burned on to private land.

Location/County
:  Five miles south of Elk Springs off Highway 40 in Moffat County.

Cause:  Lightning

Acres:  6100 Acres

Containment:  75% with full containment projected for August 9

Significant Events: 

There has been no additional growth today on the Wolf Fire.  Burning today was from areas inside the fire perimeter of unburned trees and vegetation.  No aerial support was needed today and demobilization of engines and crews is underway.  The remaining incident personnel will continue mopping up and cold trailing, ensuring hot spots near the fireline are out.

Values at risk:  Oil and gas facilities three miles south of the incident; critical wildlife habit; grazing

Resources:  On August 7 there will be 2 engines, 3 hand crews and 1 water tender

The fire situation rating for the Rocky Mountain Area is at Preparedness Level 3, the highest level possible is 5.
