Boulder Ranger District takes advantage of the snow and burns slash piles

U.S. Forest Service firefighters are taking advantage of existing and forecasted snow to burn slash piles in several potential locations through the weekend, including Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Conditions are evaluated each day of the burn to determine if ignition will take place, and ignitions typically begin between 10-11 a.m. Wind, fuel moisture, staffing and amount of snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition occurs.

Potential areas where slash burning could occur over the next three days include:

·  Mellow Mountain Area: Lee Hill Drive; Nugget Drive and Peak View Drive (These areas contain small slash piles along the National Forest Boundary with private land).

·  West Magnolia (This area contains one large landing pile)

·  Yankee Hill (This area, located near Columbine Campground northwest of Central City, contains small slash piles)

To receive updates on pile burning activities in the Boulder Ranger District area emailkrarmstrong@fs.fed.us or call 303-541-2532.
